Guided or Self-Guided at the 9/11 Museum

Inside the 9/11 Museum there are three ways round: self-guided on the timed ticket, self-guided with the audio guide sold at the museum in nine languages, or on one of the museum’s own 60-minute tours with a museum guide. The guided walks sold on this site lead the free memorial outside; their guides do not lead inside the museum unless the docent option is booked.

Self-guided on the timed ticket

The museum’s timed ticket covers all three permanent exhibitions at the visitor’s own pace. Reviewers say about two hours; Chris (UK) wrote “allow 2hrs”. Free Wi-Fi is included. Emma (UK) found the visit well organised and walked round the two fountains first.

The audio guide

The audio guide is sold separately at the museum, in nine languages including American Sign Language, with audio description and ASL video tours for visitors who need them. It is not part of the timed ticket. The audio guide page has the detail, and the memorial outside has its own free audio guide on the Bloomberg Connects app.

The walking tours: guides stay outside

The five guided walks on this site cover the Oculus, St. Paul’s Chapel, the FDNY Ten House, the pools and the Survivor Tree with a local guide. When the museum is chosen, the visit inside is self-guided, except on the VIP option of the Ground Zero walk and the full-access walk, where a museum docent leads. Choosing between them

The audio guide suits a visit in one of its nine languages at the visitor’s own pace. The 60-minute museum tours suit a first visit with limited time, since they include expedited entry and the visitor stays on afterwards. A walk plus the docent option combines a guide outside and a guide below. The which-tour page sorts the six products by need.

Local tip

The Early Access Museum Tour enters before public opening, which is the one way to see Foundation Hall before the first public slot arrives.
