Open until 8 pm, then roped off
After dark and before 8 pm is one of the plaza’s quietest periods, and the water in the two pools is lit. From 8 pm the plaza is roped off until 8 am. The best-time page covers the quiet hours by day and season.
The museum closes at 7 pm
Regular museum hours are 9 am to 7 pm, Wednesday to Monday plus many Tuesdays, with last admission at 6 pm. On Free Admission Mondays entry runs from 5:30 pm to the 7 pm close. The Tribute in Light is a separate matter, lit once a year on 11 September; the Tribute in Light page explains it.
The plaza after the museum closes at 7 pm gives an hour with the lit pools before the ropes go up at 8 pm.
